135: LIBR Anorexia Research with Dr. Sahib Khalsa
As if we didn’t love the Laureate Institute for Brain Research enough for their work with floating and anxiety, Dr. Sahib Khalsa joins us today to talk about yet another study they’re completing - float therapy with anorexia treatment. Dr. Sahib’s is currently running a second study with participants who have anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder with a very high mortality rate.
He shares how the float environment can help clients with anorexia to feel more comfortable, and how they studied the environment for safety issues before proceeding. With traditional treatments, about 50% of patients have a relapse requiring further treatment, so floating could provide longer lasting results to more individuals. In this second study, Dr. Sahib and his team are recruiting participants with even more severe body image disturbance issues to complete a series of eight floats over the course of four weeks.
