147: Justin Feinstein Introduces the Float Research Collective

·

The Float Conference offers a variety of free sessions on Friday before the big event. One of those such sessions was Justin Feinstein’s discussion about the Float Research Collective, a way for commercial float centers across the globe to get involved in formal studies relating to floatation therapy. This conversation started at the Rise Float Gathering in St. Louis in April, and since then, Justin has been looking for ways to leverage the industry in order to grow the reach of what’s possible. In this episode, you’ll hear a live recording of his talk to a packed room with people piling up at the door to hear what he has to say.

One of the most important messages Justin shares is how float center owners should be cautious of conducting their own research independently. In order to be recognized and respected throughout the scientific community, it’s critical to conduct a few steps: 1) All participants must sign an Informed Consent form with specific language to ensure the practice is ethical and compliant, and 2) All research requires the support of an IRB, or Institutional Review Board.  A recent fibromyalgia study conducted across several float centers provided wonderful results, but it can’t be published and recognized officially because it didn’t meet the above criteria.

Further, every country has laws about what is required for ethical research, so be sure to do your homework before you get started. Also be sure your marketing messages don’t disqualify you by planting promises and expectations in the participants’ minds. Reach out to Justin with your questions!

Recently a website was launched documenting the scientific evidence base of floating… www.clinicalfloatation.com to host a wealth of medical information. It provides news and publications, as well as presentations, that provide scientific findings. Please help share this website with your clients and with anyone who is looking for deeper details.

Hello Dr. Feinstein my name is Reggie Hairston. And I am a huge admirer of clinical flotation. Growing up me and my family always use to visit the ocean. And just so happens one of my favorite past times were to float. I would just float mabey for hours looking into the sun as it baked a portion of my soul and dipping back into the water to cool off. I always was the first one into the ocean and the very last one to leave. I mean the last guy to exit the ocean. My family mother or relatives would have to pull me out by the ears. I know often times they probably thought about leaving me out there and hopefully I would turn up just in time for supper. For me floating has been a life long journey. Relieving stress activating my cognitive senses of awareness and giving me a deeper connection with my Biological construct. So I thank you for your research. I feel many people will benefit from the research and possible heal and or comfort alot of enabling discognative functions.
