Dustin Erickson of Float Space in Kelowna, BC joins the show to talk about the history of his center, re-branding, and changing membership structures. Since opening his center three years ago, Dustin hasn’t been shy about implementing innovative change and has altered his membership structure six times with the goal of fostering a community that floats regularly. He received quite a bit of backlash initially after implementing a floater etiquette that puts more responsibility on the floater, such as bringing their own towel and earplugs and scheduling online, but allows for reduced pricing. He shares why he took that step and how it’s been going for the past six months.

Lance is back after having two weeks away from both the podcast and The Float Shack to do some work on a house he purchased when he was 19 and is now planning to sell. Salt from the float tank in the basement had caused damage to the laminate flooring, and he and Dylan discuss what was also a recent conversation in Float Collective about how laminate flooring would hold up in float rooms. On the topic of flooring and decision-making, Dylan brings ups how he’s noticed a trend of mansplaining between his female consulting clients and their contractors and offers advice to anyone who feels they have a contractor who isn’t fully listening or offering respect.

The Float Shoppe launched the teaser for their new membership, which features one of the photos from Dylan’s latest photography project. His goal is to create a collection photos that represents floaters of a variety of body types, ages, races, and genders. He talks about the challenges of getting proper lighting and angles in the float environment but also the fun of collaborating on this project with the community.
