John MacKenzie from The Business Training Hub joins the gang for a three-part interview to be aired in mini-episodes over the next few weeks. John is the business coach for both Float Nashville and The Float Shack and has not only helped guide and strengthen the businesses but has helped Amy and Lance grow as effective managers. Today’s episode focuses on employee management, fostering a work environment where employees are happy and successful and where managers are free to focus on the big picture.
John talks about why one of the most effective tools for managing employees is thorough documentation of procedures, no matter how small. Our hosts discuss how they utilize live documents, videos, and pictures for documenting procedures and whose role it is to keep them updated over time.
A comprehensive on-boarding of a new team member is key to giving them the basis for becoming a great employee. Setting expectations with proper job descriptions and key performance indicators (KPIs) and then communicating how their performance will be evaluated. Amy shares how setting goals with employees has enhanced the quality of her employee reviews. John also discusses why staff meetings are critical and also gives advice on how they can be structured to be most efficient.
