Employee Sales Incentives & Facebook Live!

·

This week, the gang is joined by Dan Larsen, owner of Oly Float in Olympia, WA. He shares how he discovered floating while working as a freelance marketing consultant, bartering floats for a marketing services, and being blown away by how applicable floating is to everyone. From the standpoint of a marketing consultant, it intrigued him how marketing would look in an industry that is applicable to countless groups of psychographics.

Lance is reporting back from his experimentation this week with Facebook livestream. Despite the challenge of holding his phone in selfie position while trying not to be nervous about being broadcasted live, he has some fascinating numbers to share about the success of his first two streams. The hosts weigh in on some exciting possibilities for this technology, from center tours, to floater testimonials, to live announcements!

Then, the team tackles the topic of motivating employees through incentives or sales commissions. Dan describes the system for sales commissions that he has implemented at Oly Float and shares how it has been beneficial both for revenue and for employee satisfaction. As he describes, training and coaching is key so that employees are confident in promoting sales while not being pushy salespeople.

I’m only 5 minutes into this episode but I have to say that people LOVE the star light ceiling in our Ocean Room. Most people turn them off after a few minutes anyways, but they make for awesome marketing and showing off. I paid Float Rooms USA for the upgrade when my tank was installed (about $2k), but you can put them in yourself as well. Uncharted Waters Float Center has them in their @Peace cabins. All you need is a drill, a set of fiber-optic lights, a little electric know-how (or a friend with the know-how) and a creative mind (which we all have) if you want to sneak a few easter eggs into the stars- think constellations.

So many more people than you even know love and appreciate you Lance! I’m sure you get it at your float center when you have time to be there- “thank you for bringing this here”, “thank you so much”. People really appreciate all the hard work that it took and continues to take for building and running a float center. And all us float center owners appreciate you for spending extra time on the Canadian Float Collective and the Art of the Float Podcast. You bring some awesome knowledge, insight, questions, answers and comedy to the industry. I know you will find your balance and do what feels right. I’ve had a couple of breakdown moments over the past few months, but reminding myself that “in the end it’s all okay, and if it’s not okay it’s not the end” (Wookiefoot), thinking of all the phone calls from people thanking me and rooting for me to get my center open eventually and reminding myself that so many people will be helped through floating turned those tears into laughter and joy.

Hope all is well with you all. Much love, and looking forward to partying with you all at the float festival!

Greg, you’re just too kind. Thank you so much for that. I look forward to seeing you this weekend in Portland. 🙂
